EVENT DETAILS
Chuck Loring is a senior partner in the Fort Lauderdale- and Indianapolis-based firm of Loring, Sternberg & Associates, which provides fundraising and governance consulting services to nonprofits, and Senior Governance Consultant for BoardSource, which supports nonprofit organizations with resources and tools to strengthen governance and board and staff leadership.

Chuck presented a workshop for us in September of 2017; attendees raved about that session.  This is similar -- the topics are the same -- but Chuck is presenting it as a team workshop for 4 or more from each organization.

NPOs are encouraged to view this as an opportunity for a 'Simultaneous Board Retreat' facilitated by Chuck Loring.

Purposeful Boards, Powerful Fundraising

This practical session filled with tools you can use is perfect for board-staff teams and addresses the complementary roles board members play in their organization's governance and resource development.

The session begins with a close look at board recruitment, structure, operations, and culture, knowing that weak boards don’t raise funds effectively.  The second part of the session focuses on how to involve board members in effective fundraising and their role in supporting your bequest and planned giving program.

Topics covered will include:
• Trends impacting governance & fundraising in the nonprofit sector.
• Why some nonprofits confuse volunteering with governance.
• Legal obligations of nonprofit boards.
• How great boards profile before recruiting.
• Why term limits are essential for a fundraising board.
• How successful fundraising is not about asking for money.
• Periodic fundraising exercises you can do with your board.
• How to get your board to articulate your organization’s value.
• How every willing board member can be a great fundraiser.

Chuck is a past president of the Indiana chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, is a Certified Fund Raising Executive, and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and an MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.

Chuck has helped hundreds of local and regional nonprofits across the country improve their governance, including such prominent charities as Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Girl Scouts USA, The Alzheimer’s Association, Easter Seals, Planned Parenthood, Feeding America, and The Smithsonian National Museum of The American Indian.

Each year, Chuck conducts dozens of training programs for funders, community foundations, and nonprofit centers interested in good governance.   He came highly recommended by Teri Bordenave, who many of you know from local nonprofit roundtable sessions.

Who should attend?
CEO’s/Executive Directors should attend with their board Chair, and at least two board members.   Minimum of 4 attendees per organization.
